The CFI program was created as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and provides $2.5 billion over 5 years for electric vehicle charging and alternative fuel infrastructure in communities and important transit corridors, with a focus on underserved and disadvantaged communities.

Here are examples of winning applications:

Boise, ID

Boise, Idaho received a $3.2 million grant for new public electric vehicle charging sites as well as a workforce development initiative to incorporate electric vehicle charging training into two local electrician apprenticeship programs. Boise’s proposal includes strong stakeholder engagement as well as a demonstrated, data-based commitment to prioritize the needs of disadvantaged communities. View the winning application | View the case study here

Mesa, AZ

Mesa, Arizona received a $11.8 million grant to install electric vehicle charging ports as well as infrastructure to support multi-modal electrification. The later included e-bike and e-scooter charging docks and solar canopies that will serve to provide shade at charging stations and generate supplemental electricity for use at charging sites.
